Suspension order of SP Dhirendra Rai rejected by Allahabad HC

Rejecting the suspension order of Superintendent of Police (SP) Dhirendra Kumar Rai, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court imposed a penalty of Rs three lakh on state government.

Petitioner Dhirendra Kumar Rai said in his petition that in spite of his continuous demands, state government did not provide adequate police force during the encounter with notorious dacoit Thokia in Chitrakoot district on July 22, 2007. Six sleuths of Special Task Force (STF) and an informer were killed in this encounter and petitioner was charged for carelessness.

Allowing this writ petition, the bench comprising of Justice Devi Prasad Singh and Justice S C Chaurasiya passed this order.

Petitioner would get Rs two lakh from the amount of penalty and Rs one lakh would be deposited in mediation centre.
